Fighting domestic violence in Latvia with Finnish and Norwegian support

Just a lovers’ spat. A common explanation in Latvia for domestic violence, although legislation has been considerably tightened in recent years. The country’s Marta Centre, with support from Norway, is working to reduce stereotypical perceptions among Latvian government officials.

The Marta Centre in Latvia receives support from voluntary organisations like the Martha Foundation in Finland and the Norwegian organisation Friends of the Marta Centre in Riga.

The Marta Centre has also received € 130,000 euro in EEA grants – Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway's contribution to the EU which allows them to participate in the common market. The three EEA countries have become some of the largest contributors to voluntary organisations in Central and Eastern Europe.
