The Council is not going to stop at just controls and exposures, it
also plans to introduce and coordinate strict sanctions on companies
which break the law on the use of illegal workers. The penalties must
be strict enough to make it not worthwhile recruiting illegal
workers.
The Nordic Council is recommending that Nordic governments help the
new EU member states strengthen their control bodies and trade union
organisations so that they can comply with the applicable EU directives
on industrial relations. The governments are now being asked to assess
the use of EU structural and regional funding for improving industrial
relations.
