Norwegian technical studies recruitment a model for Nordic universities

A considerable proportion of girls choose not to study sciences and technology. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology NTNU in Trondheim has chosen to hold several fairs to recruit girls. The rest of the Nordics will follow, the “girl agents” say.

Tourism pushes Iceland's CO2 emissions to record levels

While many countries have managed to cut their climate gas emissions, Iceland has seen a marked increase in recent years according to the latest data from 2016. That year, the per capita carbon dioxide emissions were 16.9 tonnes. The EU average was 7.3 tonnes per capita.

Youth unemployment — light at the end of the tunnel?

The tide is turning. Starting this year, Europe’s working-age population is falling, but that does not solve the problem of youth unemployment. Clear political priorities are needed. We have looked at some of the current measures in the Nordic region. We went to North Sweden to see how a small municipality is dealing with the challenges. We have looked at apprenticeship systems in Norway, Denmark and Finland to see what works, and we met Finnish youths who have been given a new chance through the youth guarantee — which is meant to be a model for the rest of Europe. The question remains: is there light at the end of the tunnel?

In Iceland, plans for a new public transport system to connect the capital region's population is being met with both excitement and criticism. Some 250,000 people live in the Capital Area (Reykjavik and the five municipalities in the region), which is roughly two-thirds of the country's entire population.
